"The strongest are not always those who win but those who don't give up when they lose."

Wise words coming from someone who just turned 25. But his actions have proven the phrase to be true. His life story nonetheless was not a fairy tale. His father died when he was 12 and his mother was left in debt with two children to put through school. "My mum worked three jobs just to put food on the table"

As a teenager he had sampled most sports from playing for the school's soccer team to track and field, volleyball, cross-country. "I grew up in a time when sports was more important than money. There were very few overweight kids in school."

It wasn't until Sasi signed with the Singapore Commandos that he became conditioned and discovered the fire-power that fuels him till' this day. "My best days were in the Commandos. Sure the training was beyond limits but that strengthened my mind. Every time I step into a gym I know I'm not there to talk only to push my limits. I mean back then in camp we used to walk, run and swim for miles everyday!"

Sasi admits bodybuilding chose him the same way any ambition springs out of surprise. A former tri-athlete in the Army he was a lean 55kg. "I discovered that even if I could do 50 pull-ups at a go I wasn't going to ever look like a bodybuilder." After picking FLEX magazines he soon decided to try his hand at this sport. "I can tell you it wasn'y easy but then again success never comes overnight. I read as much as I could to gain knowledge. I tried almost every exercise you can think of but I realised there is no 100% guranteed results for anyone. It was a journey of soul-searching and self-discovery."

This bodybuilder persevered despite not even qualifying for his first contest at the 2005 Pesta Sukan Open Category. He was just 21yrs old without any coach and no experience. In 2006 he came back at his first National Championships and placed 5th in the 65kg category.
